Holds, Requests, and Interlibrary Loan

  • You may request items (place a hold) in SNAPweb found by clicking on the "Search Catalog" tab. 
  • Find the item you would like and click on it to bring up the record. Make certain the item does not have a Lost, Traced or Missing status.
  • On the upper left side of the screen a blue Place Holds (Request this Item) button allows you to order that item.   Follow the instructions for placing your hold (i.e. entering your Library card number, last name, last four digits of your phone number) and finally choosing the pick-up branch most conveninent. 
  • If you are ordering multiple items, click “Add this record to list” under the Personal List Manager (also found on the left hand column).  You may return to your search or initiate a new one and add additional items.  When you are ready to order your holds, click on “View personal list” and refine your list if needed, then place your holds.
  • If you are in the Benicia Library, or ordering from your home computer for items indicating on the shelf the system will not allow you to place holds.  Staff can override the system and place holds for you if you are in the Library or wish to call us. From home you can place holds for pick up in Benicia by going to any other SNAP library's website.
  •  If an item is not in the SNAP catalog, you may try and borrow it from a library in our Consortium by following the SuperSearch button on the catalog screen.
  • If you want an item that is not in our catalog or in SuperSearch, ask the staff about borrowing it from another library system or go to Request Partner and fill out a request for the item either for the library to order it from another library or for the library to purchase the item. (The librarians will make the final decision on whether they will borrow it from another library or purchase it) Information on how to use Request Partner.
  • Service is free.
  • Audiovisual items, textbooks and some genealogy items can be ordered from libraries outside SNAP or SuperSearch subject to availability.
  •  It can take 6 weeks to 3 months for items to arrive from libraries outside of SNAP or SuperSearch.
