$1 Fine For Not Picking Up Your Holds

With the new year, it is time for a reminder about items left on our hold shelves past the 7-day expiration date.  If you do not pick up your items or let us know you no longer want them you will be charged $1.00 per item. The charge will show as a manual fine in your library account.

 

To manage your holds and avoid these charges:

  • Use the "Suspend" feature to keep items from arriving when you are out of town, or to keep everything from getting here all at once.  Ask at the Reference Desk for help with this feature. 
  • Call, eMail, or Instant Message the Library and let us know you no longer want the item(s).
  • If the item has arrived, bring the item to the desk or put it in the return slot (with the hold slip inside). 
  • If you need 1-2 more days beyond the expiration date to pick up a hold, call and let us know. We will extend your deadline, if possible.  

We appreciate your help with this issue.   Removing items from the hold shelf and returning them to the owning library takes staff time away from other important duties and delays the delivery of materials to waiting customers.
