Jack-O-Lantern Contest and Scary Stories

Wednesday, October 29

7:00 - 8:30 pm

Enter the Library's 18th annual Jack-o-Lantern Contest!  Bring your carved pumpkin to enter the contest, or just come to vote for your favorites. The contest is open to everyone, including teens and adults, so show off those carving skills.   While the judges choose the winners, listen to some scary stories, very scary ones told in the dark for brave children (8 and up), and less scary ones for younger children.

Gardening in Times of Drought

Learn about rainwater harvesting, low-water need plants, lawn replacement rebates, water conserving irrigation, mulching, and soil amendments.  Also learn more about the Sustainability Commission in Benicia.  Co-sponsored by the Library and the UCCE Solano County Master Gardeners.

September is National Literacy Month

Most of us take for granted our ability to read the printed word - the street signs around us, filling in application forms and more.  For 30 years the state of California has provided literacy services through the California Library Literacy Services!  Governor Brown recognized this milestone with a proclamation. 

Try a Book Club This Year

We have books clubs for all ages.  Try one today.  - Biography book club will be starting the first Monday of the Month in January.

20-Something Book Club - First Tuesday of the Month, 7 pm

 Are you between the ages of 18 and 29 and interested in books? Come to the 20-Something Book Club.

Kid's Book Club, First Tuesday of the Month, 3:30-4:30 pm

If you don't ave a library card September is the month to get one! Get a free pencil when you sign up for a library card and enter our raffle for a $25 coupon to spend at an upcoming Friends Book Sale! 

Bring in your photo ID and verification of your current address and you can be on your way to checking out a variety of items both from the Library and from our extensive list of online resources.

Children 4 and older can also get a card when a parent (or legal guardian) comes in with them.
