Poets at the Art Walk

Hear poetry with Benicia's Poet Laureate, Lois Requist, and members of the First Tuesday Poetry Group in combination with the monthly First Street Art Walk.  The readings will be at the following times and locations:  5 pm at the Plein Air Art Gallery and Joyous Gardens, 6 pm at Gallery 621 and 7 pm at Bookshop Benicia.

Books for Book Clubs

 

Sets Available

Borrow a set of books for your book club to use.   Each title provides the number of books available in the set and a summary of the story.  One person checks out the set for their group and has 60 days to use and return. 

Poets Laureate Panel Discussion

Benicia's four Poets Laureate will attempt to demystify poetry with this panel discussion conducted by Lois Requist, Benicia Poet Laureate.  Former poets laureate Joel Fallon, Robert Shelby and Joe Fallon will also participate. 

Present questions, comments, or poems in advance for the poets to respond to by sending an email to Loqu@sbcglobal.net. The public is invited.

Teen Poetry Slam and Open Mic Night

We will transform the Doña Benicia room into a coffee house full of java and treats while we listen to teen poetry! Bring your favorite poems to read (whether you or someone else wrote them) or choose a poem at the event!

Family Storytime and Teddy Bear Sleepover

We'll have a storytime and a craft, and then your teddy bear (or other stuffed animal) can stay overnight in the Library!  Come back Tuesday morning after 10:00 am to find out what your teddy bear did overnight.

Nationally Known Quilter to Speak

Nationally known quilter, Marion Coleman, will be at the Library to talk about her inspiration in making her storytelling quilts.  Coleman, whose quilts are currently traveling the country with the International Quilt Festival, believes quilting is a reminder of the past - "not just our nation's but our families' as well."
Come listen to Marion, have a chance to view some of her quilts and at the same time, view the quilt exhibit at the Library by the Carquinez Strait Stitchers.

Library Foundation Fundraiser

907 Grill will donate 20% of net sales from those who bring in the flyer attached below to the Library Foundation's effort to purchase a new self-check machine for the Library.  Only guests with a flyer will have their purchases credited to the Benicia Library Foundation.  One flyer per table.
