Why the Library Need Friends

The public library is a center for research, culture and learning. Our library system is tax supported, but many items cannot be included in the annual budget. The Friends of the Benicia Public Library is one of hundreds of similar groups throughout the United States that work to support their public libraries.

Now you can shop for books anytime the library is open.  Find the Book Store in the alcove next to the Hold Shelf.

The Monthly Book Sales

A book sale is held the second Saturday of every month from 10 am to 4 pm at the Library in downtown Benicia. Each month there are over 50,000 volumes of donated books to choose from. Usually in February and August, members of the Friends of the Benicia Public Library enjoy a champagne reception and special book sale the Thursday night prior to the regular book sale date, check your Friends Newsletter for more information.  ONLY CASH OR CHECKS ACCEPTED, PLEASE.

On the Thursday evening before the Saturday book sale, there is a members only book sale from 6 to 8 pm. Membership dues are accepted at the door.

More volunteers are needed for ongoing help with the monthly book sales. Volunteers work 2-hour shifts. Request more information at the book sales.

Books can be donated to the Friends by dropping them off at the Library during open hours.  Please place donations in a paper bag or box (no plastic bags, please).  If your donation is more then a few boxes and/or you require assistance to bring your donation into the Library please call Ron Arrants at (707) 745-4770 to arrange for assistance. 

Friends Board Meetings

The Friends of the Benicia Public Library Board Meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Edna Clyne room. Meetings are open to all.

Friends of the Library USA

The Friends of the Benicia Public Library belongs to Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA). FOLUSA is a membership organization of more than two thousand local Library Friends groups. The mission of FOLUSA is to motivate and support local Friends groups across the country in their efforts to preserve and strengthen libraries.
