All About Children’s Services
The Benicia Public Library’s Children’s Services Department provides library service to children from birth through age 14. Children’s Services also assists parents, caregivers, educators, and anyone with an interest in children’s literature.
At the Benicia Public Library, kids can:
- Get their own library card as soon as they are four years old
- Borrow from an exciting collection of books, magazines, and other materials selected especially for children
- Come to special events and participate in free programs like the Summer Reading Program
- Talk to a children’s librarian to get answers to their questions, or to find a great book to read next
The Children’s Services Department employs two full-time professional children’s librarians, Allison Angell and Claire Sue, who (along with the rest of the library staff) provide the following services:
Reference and information:
Have a question? Need an answer? That’s what the library is here for. You can call the Reference Desk on the phone (707) 746-4343, or come to the Children’s Information Desk and ask a librarian in person. Whether it’s research for homework, a personal problem, or just for fun, a children’s librarian can help you find what you need.
Reader advisory
Not sure what to read next? Having trouble finding a book you like? Let a children’s librarian help! They are experts in children’s literature, they understand kids, and they are always happy to suggest something. Or look at one of the Library’s lists of recommended books, and maybe you’ll see something you like there.
Programming:
The children’s librarians provide a wide variety of children’s programs to promote reading, teach a love of books, and encourage kids and their families to come to the library. Take a look at the list of Special Events and Programs for Kids to find out what’s happening at the library!
