Teen Volunteers
Teen Volunteer Program
What is the Teen Volunteer Program?
The Benicia Public Library is thrilled to have a dedicated group of Teen Volunteers! These amazing teens perform tasks that help make the Library a better place for everyone from helping behind the scenes to creating great posters and displays.
Some of their projects include:
- Creating book displays in the Teen Zone
- Designing and creating original bulleting boards for the Teen Zone
- Writing reviews for teen novels
- Making signs and posters for upcoming events
- Choosing books the Teen Librarian will purchase for the Teen Zone
- Assisting the Children’s Librarians with programs & storytime preparation
- Straightening and organizing the books on the shelves
- Decorating the Library for holidays and special events
- Posting Library publicity materials in First Street businesses
- Helping update the Teen Zone MySpace and Teen Web Page
- Brainstorming ideas for the future of the Teen Zone
(And these are just a few of the jobs done by Teen Volunteers!)
What do the teens get for all their hard work?
- A fabulous tee-shirt with an original graphic (A t-shirt design contest is held once a year where $100 is given out to the winner!)
- Occasional snacks - like brain food, cookies and candy!
- Great experience for job and college applications. (The Teen Services Librarian will even write a letter of recommendation for committed volunteers!
- Socializing with other teens while they are helping to make the Benicia Public Library a better place for all patrons!
- A sense of ownership in a community library
How does one become a Teen Volunteer?
Teen Volunteer Applications are now available at the Reference Desk. Please fill it out and return it to the Teen Services Librarian. We will notify you if you are accepted into the program. There are limited spaces but you may be placed on an On Call Teen Volunteer list where we will let you know when the Library needs extra help.
